I got a bit overwhelmed this week catching up on blogs, people had so many plans for the coming year. So many projects, classes, goals. People were sharing their OLW (One Little Word - a single word you choose to help focus you for the year) My friend Jacky has chosen FINISH, now I have Jacky pictured as one of those people that carries through on all her classes, completes all projects and leaves little undone. Hmmmm blogworld fooled me, Jacky is more like me than I suspected. She is not a Finisher and so this year she will strive to become one. That would have been an excellent OLW for me but possibly next year, too many big things coming up for me to start stressing about finishing lol Anyway I have made minimal intentions/goals/commitments for 2013 but thought I'd share a couple because you might be interested in joining in.
I'm not committing to 52 weeks but I do plan to attempt many of the weekly challenges. We don't have a basement so knock that one off...one week for organizing ALL photos, videos probably isn't near enough, one week for truly and totally organize ALL things crafty ummm maybe a bit more time. Week One starts Monday (Jan 7) and is just countertops and the sink...thinking I can handle that one ;)
I also hope to participate in Sian's Storytelling Sundays again this year. Just like last year I probably won't publish every month but I hope I do most. This year the focus is on Pick Your Precious. "Pick Your Precious is about celebrating the little things you love: those souvenirs, bits and pieces, things from your past you can't bear to throw out. You know, the special little something you have tucked away in a drawer or up on a shelf? Or the thing you love most in a room? Or the object you would save if you knew you had to leave the country? Your favourite things."
For even more info jump over and read Sian's blog post, she and I would love for you to be a part of it. Oh and yes that means I'll be sharing something precious to me with you tomorrow!
For the beginning of the year I am reading
which includes a 30 day devotional
I have some others but I won't be sharing those, I will share that I do have OLW for this year but you have to check back this week to find out what it is. I'll also be Passing a Book this week so don't be a stranger ;)
Looking forward to your OLW and hoping that breaking things down into smaller tasks does indeed make the big things more manageable - you might surprise and delight yourself. Wishing you every success with it ...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alexa, I would indeed delighted if I surprise myself. I am thinking if I take small bits I won't have to feel like I have let things get out of control or overwhelming.
DeleteJust goes to show how wrong you can be!!!!! And that's probably because I tend to only post finished projects on the blog.....and never mention unfinished ones!!!! I also have a lot of unfinished classes that I hope to complete this year!!!! And I don't have an organised home either....maybe I should join that challenge as well.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing what your OLW is.
Ahhhh, yes, Jacky, my image of you has changed but not in a bad way and you still are on a pedestal on the Christmas card making ;)
DeleteI am sitting here smiling over your words about Jacky because I've always thought the SAME thing! And then I loved Jacky's comment above. I love our blog friends so much. :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm digging the 52 Week Organized Home Challenge - great idea to take things a week at a time. I'd have to use the "off" weeks of basement and videos to add extra time to my craft stash clean up! I like your list of "minimal intentions/goals/and commitments" - that's about my speed for this year too! xo
I think I am beyond the age of expecting too many miracles to come from New Year intentions and have become much more relaxed and realistic ... feels good :)
DeleteNow that 52 weeks looks a good one for me too. I think blog land can be very deceptive :0)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with them x
Love that there are plenty of weeks that won't apply to me because I have weeks that are going to stretch and weeks that I am going to play lol
DeleteI did a similar thing at the end of 2012 via an Australian Blog - the Organised Housewife. For one month my house looked great, and then the bad habits started creeping back! I too loved it when the day's prompt didn't apply to an English house (dust your ceiling fans - never needed over here!)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your OLW too!
Minimal intentions etc. sounds good to me Beverly!

I'm making minimal resolutions/intentions/plans for 2013, too. My main focus is getting healthy - eating well, exercising regularly, becoming more active, etc. I'm joining in Sian's Storytelling Sunday, too. I'm on my third book for this year already as I've had a reading spirt lately during the cold gray days.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're definitely planning for the new year yourself!
ReplyDeleteI was also inspired by Jacky's post to list the various undone classes I have and make a commitment to do them.

I think minimal intentions is definitely the way to go. I declared myself last year and failed epically with most of them!
ReplyDeleteOh that book looks fantastic! I must look it up. Thank you Beverly for your comment on my blog. I look forward to following along with you here! Elisa xx
