Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?

I was home alone, Stephen at work, Christopher and Nicholas both at school. I was in the den watching morning TV when the news broke. I called Stephen and was on the phone talking to him (I even remember that I was standing at the bar that separates the kitchen and den), watching the TV, sharing what they were saying with him as the second plane hit the World Trade Center. I can remember Just saying over  and over and over OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!  I remember talking to my Mama and being so scared. I did not go pick up the boys at school and there were moments over that day and the next few that I felt like a bad mother for letting them stay at school. The majority of parents did leave their children but some chose to pick them up. I just felt that the schools were handling it in a calm, and practical manner and would not spend the day transfixed by TVs as I was. I couldn't wrap my brain around what was happening as the news was shared about multiple planes and the Pentagon and the crash in Pennsylvania. I thought and Stephen agreed that normalcy was what the boys needed for at least a few more hours because the world would not be normal for a while.  We went to church and held hands across the aisles and prayed and sang and asked for God's comfort, we prayed for all those that knew their loved ones had passed on and for those that had no answers. We prayed for President Bush and all the leaders of our country and of the world.  Today I pray comfort for all those that were personally touched by the events of 9/11 and although the majority of us did not lose someone we loved, I pray for us too, for many of us as Americans lost our innocence that day. Never again would we so naively believe "not on our soil"

  1. I can remember where I was, what I was doing, how it made me feel etc. very, very clearly. But I can't truly imagine I don't think the immense horror, and fear, of being there or being that much closer. And, as you say - a lot changed on that day xx
