Creating .......Limoncello

I adore a very well made Lemondrop Martini. I quiz bartenders on their expertise before I will part with our money. I will share with them my high expectations and give them an out if they are uncertain if they can live up to it. I had one bartender rave about his Lemondrop prowess placing before me a divine glass of lemon sunshine. But...he was a one drink wonderkid, for the following 2 were less and less impressive. Bonefish Grill creates amazing Lemondrop Martinis, their secret is they make their own limoncello @@, so much for mimicking that. Dear, sweet, eager to make me happy the Chosen One bought all the necessary ingredients and produced a drink that turned my mouth inside out. Thanks for the effort, my love! Fortunately we recently dined at Gravy and had a wonderful waiter who in turn was also our bartender. He promised I would be pleased and ohhhh was he right!  He then shared his secret....he makes the limoncello @@ but all was not lost - he told us the recipe!!!! Happy, happy, joy, joy, I was off to buy lemons.Saturday the Chosen One and I started making limoncello...yes, started, it is an eight day recipe (some recipes call for more than 40 days!)  If all turns out well, you'll be seeing photos of the Chosen One and me enjoying our lemony creation on the patio very soon.  If not successful I promise at least one photo of our puckered faces. Here are a few photos of the process up until now.

  4. Oh my heavens! I can't wait to hear the results. I first tried Lemoncello this summer in Italy and it was like candy! I'd love the recipe if it all works out. I'll swap you a homemade Kahlua recipe I have, but that one does take 40 days! Good seeing you the past two Sunday mornings!!!

  10. Oh yummy. . . I have a friend who makes awesome lemon drop martinis (but only for special occasions), and the restaurant down the street did, too. Sadly, they closed.

  11. Oh this sounds divine! I have had lemondrop martini's and enjoyed... I do love a dirty gin martini, there is only one place who makes them perfectly and I'm not certain, but will need to ask, where they get their olives. Really enjoyed your story!

  12. How fun! Can't wait to hear how you like this, and hope you'll share the recipe with us. From the picture it looks pretty basic...anything else we should know before trying the process ourselves? xo

  13. I love lemoncello - brought some back from Italy recently, but would gladly try making my own! We sampled some "home-made-by-Italians" lemoncello while we were over there - ambrosia! We store ours in the freezer - no need to dilute with ice!
