OOPS! That's NOT How Mama Makes It!

When Baby Boy comes home from College I try to fix him real meals, comfort food. He says he likes this royal treatment he gets now that he didn't get when he lived here @@ I always ask if there is anything special he wants me to cook or any place he'd like to go out to eat. It seems when we go out he always orders hamburgers, evidently you can't get a good burger on campus and he doesn't hit Cubbies often enough. His dad always checks to see what movies he would like us to rent from Redbox. We are all about $1 rentals versus $9.50 tickets at the theater. His brother and he get quality alone time and if he's lucky he gets to see the Sweet One and Darby. So I guess it does feel pretty special. I need to make sure the Grown One, that we see on a regular basis, still feels special. Anyway last weekend I decided to make him country style steak with onions and gravy, homemade mashed potatoes and Italian green beans.  I'll just say the beans were delish. I don't know what wasn't right with the potatoes but they weren't as amazing as usual. There was no gravy and onions due to the next fact. The cube steak cooked really fast, now it doesn't take long but I'm talking really fast, it was looking burnt! I am a lover of crispy so it is just a fact of life that I am going to pick up a piece of crispy while cooking and pop it in my mouth. Ummmm yuck!  What is that taste?!  It was somehow sweet!  I looked over at the dish I had put the flour in to dredge the meat before frying, looked okay...I dipped my finger in and tasted....it was confectioner's sugar!!!!!! I had picked up the wrong canister!  The Chosen One ate it thinking it wasn't all that bad. I fixed some sausage patties that were handy for Baby Boy. Me? I went vegetarian for this meal.

  1. Ooops ooops ooops! One Christmas, many, many years ago, I ruined some gravy by refilling the gravy boat from the wrong pan ... I picked up the brandy that was ready to warm before flaming the Christmas pudding ... luckily the gravy didn't go on my dinner before my mistake was discovered - my dad wasn't so fortunate!

  2. Haha ~ oops! We were at an Italian restaurant once and my hubby picked up a sugar shaker thinking it was parmesean cheese...not!

It was fun to read about how you cater to your boy when he's home. :o) xo

  6. Guess it's universal for mums to spoil their kids when they come home! I know I always cook mine his favourite meals when he is home from uni.

  7. Oh what a funny story! I'm working on a layout idea now about our cooking disasters, hoping to get it done to post next week. We'll see how things go.
