  1. So lovely. We saw a few of these little birds in Virginia over the summer. We had never seen them before, what are they called?

    1. Abi, they are cardinals, our state bird :)

    2. The Northern Cardinal type species was named by colonists for the male's red crest, reminiscent of a Catholic cardinal's mitre.

  2. How pretty! I saw a red robin hopping along the grass verge the other day but as I was driving couldn't stop to take a pic

    1. Wow, I have never seen or for that matter heard of a blue cardinal, that would be a treat! The cardinal is NC's state bird as well :)

  4. Beautiful pic. We have cardinals here in Ontario, Canada too. I think there is a nest near by because I see them in my backyard frequently. We are lucky to have bluejays too. I am too slow to get my camera out.

    1. Darlene, there are SO many times that the cardinal gets away before I can get the camera so I feel especially happy when he is "captured".

    2. I'm not fond of bluejays at all since I consider them bullies. They used to harrass my cats terribly.
