Sometimes when I say something or make a gesture I am quite literally taken aback....I sound exactly like my oldest sister. I mean it is so dead on her that when it happens I internally say WOW! and feel like my body jumps a little bit. Our mama has always had a hard time distinguishing our voices on the phone and once I did the recording on my sister's answering machine, every time I called I thought it was her as did everyone else.
This past weekend we spent time with my husband's older brother that we don't get to see much because of distance. Afterwards I remarked that he and their younger brother had a certain laugh that was identical. I also noted that he had a sitting position that was identical to their father's...back ramrod straight, feet pulled in and crossed, sitting what we call Indian style. DH mentioned that his uncle sits the same way.
What about you? Do you share any outward characteristics with your siblings?
My brother, my sisters and I share one very specific gesture. We know how to cock that one eyebrow just the way our Mama did when we were about to get in trouble. My sister saw me do it to my daughter and she almost fell out of her chair. Otherwise, sometimes when I sing I can hear my Mama's voice. Now that she is gone it brings me comfort in knowing a part of her is with me.

ReplyDeleteI don't think there are many similarities between me and my brother, but sometimes I catch myself with the same mannerisms or facial expressions as my mother - which is a bit scary!!
EEP! Now I have that song in my head! Jungle Book was the first movie I saw in a theatre!
ReplyDeleteI have a twin brother... I do not think we look alike, but other people say we do. He is a head taller than me and has dark brown hair!
