Better but Not Good

Are you a flower arranger? I am not! I have never really been taught and as artistic as I am in some ways, I most definitely am not in this way.  A flower arranging workshop led by local florist Daniel of Daniel's Florist was offered at our church. For $13 I was to bring a vase 2-3" in diameter and in turn would receive professional instruction, the needed flowers and greenery, a delicious lunch and fellowship with some very fun ladies.

First Daniel demonstrated how to arrange that dozen roses that your husband brings home. The Chosen One actually does walk in with roses and other flowers from time to time and my arranging was better when I just gathered them and placed them in the vase than when I actually tried to arrange them.
We were taught about water, fern seeds, grids and heights. It was quick and easy.....looking, I'll let you judge the next time the Chosen One brings some home lol

After gridding off your vase did you know the next step is arranging your greenery?! Well, I didn’t!!
I always did that last, kind of as filler @@ and more secrets. Fifteen minutes had passed and I had already gotten my $13 worth!

Next up we got to go over to these huge containers and choose our flowers, we were instructed how many to choose of each variety but we were in charge of our color scheme. The pinks and purples called my name.

Next, Daniel and his associate, Barb led us step by step through where and how to place each stem and a few secrets. Okay they may have occasionally walked by and made minor corrections for us.

It’s a process, people.

A few adjustments and I was very happy with the end result. There is no worry that the flower team will be calling me but the flowers in my home will have stepped up a notch.
As soon as I walked out to the car I realized why the pinks and purples had called out to me...and it wasn't because they look quite nice against my blue den wall.

It was because they are the SpecialSister's favorite colors and I was going to see her the next day.... don't they look even prettier with her?

  1. I find my 'arranging' is better when I just gather them all up.....when I actually try and arrange them they never look quite right!!!
They do look so pretty with your sister.

    1. Jacky, what always throws me off is they are usually close to the same height, I would try to vary the heights and understood the premise. After a class I think I have that part down :)

  2. Lovely to see your arrangement in progress, and a very pretty photo of them and your sister. Your comment about your arranging being better when you didn't try to made me smile - and resonated with me too!

    1. Oh, Alexa, I had envisioned your home with beautifully arranged flowers from a cutting garden!

  3. Your flowers are lovely!

It's a good question..my skills are non-existent. But when my husband was a little boy he used to help all the ladies in the church do the flowers every week, as the rector's son, so I always get him to do my flowers!

  4. I love it! And so thankful for the tips. I always do greenery last, too! Not anymore. Did Pat love her flowers and what did she say when you told her you arranged them?

    1. Pat thought they were beautiful...mainly because they were pinks and purples :) Maybe the Chosen One and the Banker should head to the Farmer's Market with Small Frye one Saturday morning and buy us flowers while we get manicures then fix them lunch!

  5. That is such a lovely arrangement. Your sister looks so happy next to them! I am useless at arranging flowers. I am very much of the line of chop the bottoms and dunk in water! My mother is equally as bad. We kill flowers in a few days! Maybe I need to find a workshop! x

  6. I would love to take that class! I have been flower-arranging for years, with silk and real flowers, but I would so enjoy learning the correct way to do it! Plus lunch and a day out!? Forget it! I would pay double that price!

  7. Great job on your arrangement Beverly. I've always wanted to take a class . . . since I get flowers each week. I've gotten better over the years with the arranging, but now you're making me want to find a class.
