September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and teal is the official awareness color. TealToes encourages us to wear teal polish on our toes to help raise awareness. Women are wearing a lot of interesting colors now but teal is still an edgy choice and hopefully it inspires someone to question or comment on your choice. Of course, that leads to our opportunity to raise awareness.
There is no screening method for early detection for ovarian cancer. The symptoms of the disease are vague, and are not always gynecologic. But research shows that women with ovarian cancer often report having the following symptoms:
- A swollen or bloated abdomen, increased girth. Some women notice that their pants or skirts are getting tight around the waist. The bloating is a sign that fluid, called ascites, is building up in the abdominal cavity in later stage disease
- Persistent pressure or pain in the abdomen or pelvis
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
- Urinary concerns, such as urgency or frequency
- Change in bowel habits with new onset constipation and/or diarrhea
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Any woman may have these symptoms for reasons not related to ovarian cancer. However, if these symptoms are new and unusual, and persist daily for more than two weeks, a woman should see her doctor, preferably a gynecologist, and should ask about ovarian cancer.
NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE
and my dear friend, Deb has made sure that her mom, Marti, not only has family and friend support but worldwide support. Last year, Deb invited her blog friends and readers to join TEAM TEAL in support of her mom.
Deb had a special post to draw our attention to sporting teal toes.

My toe nails are always painted but I'm happiest when toes and nails are done. The reason TealToes focuses on toes is because many businesses have restrictions on things like nail polish. BEglorious has no such restrictions lol and I am thinking a lot more people notice my fingernails.(ignore the imperfection in the index finger!)
I used FingerPaint's Art Dealer Teal-er and it is dead on perfect to the shade of teal used in the cancer awareness campaign. In honor of Marti and National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month I am doing a drawing for a bottle of Art Dealer Teal-er, a bottle of awesome top coat and 1 other color of polish. The drawing is just for Facebook BEglorious fans so if you want in hop onto facebook, like my page and leave a comment. I'll draw the winner this Friday.
I will continue to pray for Marti, Rod, Deb and family.
A fine way to draw attention to this cause. I'm thinking about Marti and Deb and the family right now thanks to you :)

What a wonderful post,Beverly.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Beverly, what a wonderful post! I am so touched by this I am crying happy/grateful tears as I type this comment. As I spent last week with my mom I was amazed at how easy it seemed to remain strong for her. I KNOW that it was because of all the thoughts and prayers being sent our way, giving me strength to carry on.
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for this lovely post, your kind words, and for helping to spread the word on ovarian cancer. You are a wonderful friend and I am so very grateful. ♥
